The “Bridge” has constant presence in Athens and Piraeus, activating several Social works teams next to its population target-groups with the coverage of daily shifts. Furthermore, however,, the “Bridge” is organizing additional actions such as:
Cooperating and filling the gap
Operating every Friday under the roof of Building Hosting SynAthina (address 57 Athenas Str, situated opposite the Varvakeio meat Market) on Thursdays during 19:00-21:00 offering counselling services to homeless people by psychologists and social workers. Coffe and snacks are also available at the place.
Night Shelter Solidarity
Operating every Friday under the roof of Building Hosting SynAthina and during the night hours between 00.00 until 05.30, we offer food, coffee, tea, cakes, organized table games, provide counseling, clothing and above all a warm, human and safe environment for people experiencing the toughest form of homelessness while they live in the road.
Additionally, during operation of the Night Shelter Solidarity, our fellow citizens are given the opportunity for whoever wishes to communicate with their families, and under the constant support of our team, attempt to build a communication “bridge” in order to reunite with their loved ones.
Emergency measures to tackle extreme weather
The “Bridge” is organizing occasional shifts to inform homeless people of the existence of heated spaces and even organizes there flow to such safe areas where they can pass some hours when prevailing adverse weather conditions are anticipated. Same here it is there duty to provide them with suitable clothing, tea, distribute sleeping bags and blankets added there personal services and accommodations to make them as comfortable as possible in these hard times with the live reminder, nothing better there is! The physical presence that they are not alone and solidarity is among them!
Street food team
The “Bridge” has also introduced a new enhanced action called the “street food group”. Its members prepare food at home and then in cooperation with the outreach work groups distribute fair food portions to the beneficiaries at each worksite where homeless people live in the open.
Street action projects
It is a series of actions in Athens and Piraeus organized by the “Bridge Group” and holds a dual purpose. First objective targets the general population, cultivating the feeling of extra awareness in reference to all problems related to the being of our homelessness fellow citizens generating current flow of information and communicating their daily survival headaches. Purpose is obvious: eventually creating a “bridge” between the “two worlds”. Exemplary mention some of these actions have already taken place:
-Street pie project: the volunteer participants prepare the pie of their choice and take part in a ‘solidarity walk’ joining the teams of outreach work meetings at the road where distribution of the cake will take place among the homeless people living in street situation.
-Street soup project: similarly enough, participants prepare warm homemade soup of their choice and take part in a ‘solidarity walk’ road to road, side by side with the outreach work groups where distribution takes place..
-Street hot chocolate: the participants prepare hot chocolate drinks and take part in a ‘solidarity walk’ with the outreach work groups where chocolate cups are distributed among the homeless fellow human beings served with an escort of snacks along.
Participation, support and supervision of other activities organized by our ordinary citizens actions.
Investing in our real life experience taking full advantage of the techniques of approaching communicating and charting the hot points where are fellow men the homeless reside we are also happily participating as “helping hands” in the organization and smooth operation of other social structure awareness projects like the follοwing: Exemplary mention given to the action “Helping the Homeless” that took place in Athens and Piraeus, and the “28th ride to distribute food Accompanied by the Bridge”, which gracefully embraced hundreds of people volunteers and givers that managed to successfully share large quantities of clothes and dishes within a few hours, previously gathered in tact and strict logistical order from the crowds of people participating throughout the Country.
