Social Street Work
Social Street Work is our main and basic activity based on ‘Dynamo International’ principles which is the official ‘voice representing the international network of street workers. It applies to every person living on the street. Social Street Work uses the next tools:
approach effort (outreach work),
individual / detached assistance (detached work),
Work based on a plan / program (project based work) and,
First step: Study the area-scenery of which the team plans to operate on. This effort could contain general information regarding the target area (historical, social and cultural context of the area) and more specific details about the people living on the streets.
Second step: The team should establish its presence in the area. Observation without direct intervention. An important element of our work is to keep record of the homeless people that we meet on the streets, creating a precise reference list for future use as a standard tool for statistical analysis and research.
Third step: We introduce ourselves by telling people who we are and explaining what we do.
Fourth step: Create a personal and intimate relationship with each person living on the streetS, learn about his past life, family and health status, in order to draft a social background record.
Fifth step: offer support and help to each person in need, covering either direct material needs (food, clothing, blankets, medicines), or indirect needs (issuing unemployment cards, medical insurance, information about shelters, common meals, access to several social services).
Our main goal is to provide psychosocial support through active listening method, creating the appropriate conditions to exert their human rights.
We use a holistic and personalized approach depending on the needs of the people we support. Our target is to understand each individual’s way of thinking and the difficulties they face, through empathy. This way we try to promote the reintegration of this vulnerable group to society.
